A Microcomputer is the most useful tool on the planet.
A Microcomputer is a computer that is physically smaller than a Mainframe or Mini Computer yet bigger than a laptop or hand held computer. They usually sit on a desk at home or in the office. They are relatively easy to dismantle with a crosshead screwdriver for repair and are composed of standard components such as Microprocessor, Motherboard, Memory, Disk Drive, Video Card and attached peripherals such as Keyboard, VDU screen, and Mouse.
Both the Apple Mac and a PC are microcomputers.
Computer networks have increased the usefulness of microcomputers by enabling them to be used as a variety of servers and these ever more powerful networked microcomputers are gradually replacing minicomputers and in some cases mainframes.
The microcomputer can run operating systems such as varieties of Unix, Microsoft, and Apple as well as more specialized operating systems used for specific tasks. The microcomputers main chip the microprocessor determines the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) and is used by the operating system to control the microcomputer.
